Synergy:
1660, cooperation, from Mod. L. Synergy, from Gk.‘synergia’ joint work, assistance, help, from synergos ‘working together.’--online dictionary. I always thought the word 'synergy' was some vaguely lofty New Age term that a pop psychologist created to sell books and cards.
I was wrong.
Synergy describes a natural phenomenon, when the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
In the human body, synergistic effects between substances can cause illness, permanent damage, or even death. Because of synergistic relationships, prescription medicines often are labeled with warnings that they must not be combined with alcohol, pain relievers, or even certain foods.
But synergy among people can be a powerful source of health and growth.
When two or more people interact in a common, respectful discussion, the resulting learning and inspiration can be incredible. Here are some of the synergistic moments we've been privileged to observe recently at the Womonscape Center.
*sharing a book, food, music, an idea, a talent, a story
*contagious laughter
*increased political awareness
*greater appreciation of our amazing bodies
*recognizing the power of life experiences
Thanks to all who have spent time at the Center. It has been and continues to be a wonderfully synergistic experience.
